If you’re a fan of fashion, you may dream about having a huge walk-in closet with racks and racks of clothing, full of couture pieces as far as the eye can see. Unfortunately, for most of us, that dream simply isn’t realistic. We are stuck standing before our “regular” closets filled with our “regular” clothes, scanning back and forth, and waiting for the selections to miraculously change.

But if you find yourself thinking that you have nothing to wear, the problem might be that you have too many clothes, not too few. You might be surprised to find how liberating it can be to reduce your wardrobe. You’ve probably heard it before: Go through your closet, find anything you haven’t worn in a year, and donate it. But you should go beyond that and ask yourself why you haven’t worn those items in so long. Has your style or size changed? Maybe you changed your hair color and find that certain shades or cuts no longer work well on you? Once you determine what you don’t like about your unworn clothing items, you can start to limit yourself when purchasing new items so as to give yourself more options, even with fewer pieces.

The same “less is more” concept can be true of your jewelry. If you have items that have sat unworn for some time, try to figure out why. And you may want to consider limiting yourself to more versatile items from which you can get more wear. Pearls are perfect gemstones for a number of seasons and wardrobe styles. Regardless of changes in your jewelry preferences, pearls will never go out of style. So as you simplify your wardrobe, consider investing in a few solid pearl pieces to add some class and style to your overall look.
